Those feature differences come second. A physical Adjustable unit must be checked for model, date code, and stabilizer-remedy state because recall 23-265 covers specified 41807 models dated from November 2018 through June 2023. Folding is separately identified as model 22403. Its exact-model CPSC search found no matching notice on July 20, 2026, which is a dated search result rather than a safety guarantee.
Do not transfer the 41807 recall to model 22403
CPSC recall 23-265 names Adjustable models 41807-01, 41807-02, and 41807-03 with date codes from 2018-11 through 2023-06. CPSC reported tip-over incidents and directs owners of affected units to stop use and obtain free stabilizing bases. The current Adjustable page embeds SKU 418070 01 and shows a wider footprint than the recalled units, but it publishes neither a formal revision nor a current date code that can clear a physical unit by appearance alone.
The Folding product is model 22403 with UPC 850053573347. Its manual and commerce identity do not match the recalled 41807 model series, and its exact-model search found no matching notice. That distinction does not prove Folding is risk-free. It proves only that recall state must follow the exact model rather than the brand, color, or similar molded-plastic appearance.
The open footprints favor different kitchen routes
Adjustable measures 20.5 inches deep, 26 inches wide, and 34.5 inches high. Folding measures 20 inches deep, 21.5 inches wide, and 34 inches high. Their depths are close, but Folding is 4.5 inches narrower. Measure the counter-facing orientation, child entry side, cabinet access, adult path, and appliance clearance instead of comparing floor area alone.
Adjustable remains assembled because folding is not part of its documented design. Folding closes to 10.5 inches deep while retaining its 21.5-inch width and 34-inch height. The stored number does not describe carrying effort or the room needed to operate and inspect the sliding latch, and the manufacturer does not publish Folding's assembled product weight.
Platform fit is the clearest functional split
Adjustable publishes three standing-platform positions at 12, 15, and 18 inches. Folding has one fixed platform at 16 inches. The adjustable range can serve more child-and-counter relationships over time, but only its three discrete settings exist. The platform does not stop anywhere between them.
Folding's fixed height is easier to describe and harder to adapt. Measure the child, counter height and thickness, standing deck, top rail, and reach before valuing storage. A folding mechanism cannot repair a poor 16-inch platform fit, and extra platform positions cannot repair a tower that blocks the kitchen route.
Age and capacity differences narrow the usable window
Both manufacturer ranges begin at 18 months. Adjustable extends through 5 years and states a 60-pound maximum. Folding extends through 4 years and states a 43-pound maximum. Those limits favor Adjustable on paper, but they remain independent ceilings rather than a safety score or promise of equal guard fit at every age.
Stop at the first failed gate: independent standing and controlled entry, age guidance, child weight, platform-to-counter fit, guard relationship, physical condition, correct assembly, or recall remedy. Do not keep using either tower merely because the child remains below the published weight number.
Both use molded plastic, but their inspection points differ
Both products are described as double-wall plastic made in the United States. Adjustable uses a fixed frame, high enclosing sides, handholds, a wide stabilizing base, and six non-skid feet. Folding uses a molded upper enclosure, textured step and platform, a wide-base description, and a sliding fold latch.
Inspect either product for cracks, stress whitening, deformation, damaged platform supports, missing feet, sharp damage, and contamination. On Adjustable, also verify any required recall stabilizers and their attachment. On Folding, operate the latch while empty and confirm the frame reaches its fully open locked position before the child enters. Neither exact product has a product-specific certification record in the current catalog.
The ten-dollar price gap should not choose the mechanism
The eligible current direct observations are $99.99 for Adjustable and $89.99 for Folding. Both were in stock at the dated check. That ten-dollar difference is small relative to a mismatched platform height, unusable storage route, unresolved recall identity, missing replacement parts, or a child near the first applicable limit.
Use price only after the exact model, recall state, footprint, platform fit, guard relationship, storage routine, and support path pass. Recheck the live listing, included parts, delivery terms, and return policy because these are dated manufacturer observations rather than permanent prices.
Independent sample testing applies only to the named Adjustable sample
Consumer Reports reported that the newer Simplay3 Toddler Tower Adjustable Stool sample passed its 2025 directional stability and head-and-torso probe tests. That is useful independent evidence for the tested sample and methods. It is not certification, long-term durability evidence, or proof that every Adjustable production unit and repair state performs identically.
The reviewed Consumer Reports report does not name model 22403 Folding as a tested product. Absence from that report is not a failed result, and the Adjustable result cannot be transferred to Folding. The two products still need exact-unit inspection, and neither has completed this site's hands-on protocol for repeated use, latch wear, platform retention, cleaning, or real-room stability.
Make the choice in a fail-closed order
First photograph the physical model and date-code labels. Second reconcile recall scope and remedy state. Third measure the kitchen route and operating footprint. If both models remain suitable, the choice is adjustment versus storage. That is a practical tradeoff, not a winner. Real stability, handling, cleaning effort, mechanism wear, repair quality, and long-term condition require hands-on inspection of the exact unit.
