The short answer: calculate first, then match a real position
Measure from the floor to the top of the exact work surface, then from the floor to the child's bent elbow while the child stands flat on the floor. Subtract elbow height from surface height to get a starting platform estimate. Use the calculator below for the arithmetic, then compare the result with each model's published positions. A result of 16 inches does not mean a 12-to-18-inch tower can stop anywhere in between. It may offer only 12, 15, and 18 inches.
Treat the nearest published position as a candidate, not an answer. Check the child's posture at the counter, the relationship between torso and guard, the counter overhang, the complete footprint, nearby heat and sharp-object zones, model limits, assembly, and current recall identity. If the nearest real setting leaves the child reaching upward, leaning over the guard, crouching, or standing too high relative to the enclosure, reject that fit even when the arithmetic looks close.
A published range is a set of stops, not a continuous track
Little Partners Original publishes four stops at 10.59, 13.19, 15.79, and 18.39 inches. Explore 'N Store publishes 12.36, 14.33, 16.3, and 18.27 inches. Sprout publishes 12.5, 15.5, and 18.5 inches. Costway publishes 14.5, 17.5, and 20.5 inches. The minimum and maximum summarize those discrete settings, but they hide the gaps between them.
The same rule applies to the in-stock group. Piccalio publishes 12.6, 15, and 17.72 inches. Simplay3 Adjustable and Franklin+Emily each publish 12, 15, and 18 inches. Guidecraft FLEX publishes two settings at 14 and 17 inches. Compare the calculator result with the exact list, not the midpoint of the advertised range and not an assumption that the platform slides freely.
Four positions can narrow the gap without resolving the fit
A four-position system gives more candidate stops than a two-position system across a similar vertical span. Little Partners Original spaces its four positions about 2.6 inches apart, while Explore 'N Store spaces its four positions about 2 inches apart. That can place a setting closer to a calculated estimate, but it does not establish the child's posture, guard relationship, counter clearance, or stability on the exact unit.
Lifecycle evidence matters too. The Original was out of stock in the current official commerce record, while only the Soft White Explore 'N Store finish was available at the recorded check. A broad range on an unavailable configuration cannot solve today's purchase decision. Keep the measurement fact and the availability fact separate.
Three positions can cover different parts of the vertical range
Sprout, Costway, Piccalio, Simplay3 Adjustable, and Franklin+Emily all publish three positions, but their ranges are not interchangeable. Simplay3 and Franklin+Emily start at 12 inches. Piccalio starts at 12.6 inches. Sprout starts at 12.5 inches and reaches 18.5. Costway starts much higher at 14.5 inches and reaches 20.5 inches.
That 20.5-inch Costway maximum is the highest published setting in this selected group, not a recommendation. A higher deck reduces the amount of child height needed to reach a surface, but it also changes the child's position relative to the guard and counter. The current Costway record also has unresolved availability and no eligible current price. Those gates remain visible rather than being buried under the largest number.
Adjustment method determines whether a setting is practical to change
Little Partners describes both four-position systems as tool-free. Sprout's R4 frame uses fitted panels, a ladder, and a locking arrangement that can be disassembled without tools. Simplay3 uses a molded adjustable platform. The exact empty-product sequence still belongs to the current manual, and every connection must be fully seated before the child enters.
Franklin+Emily secures its platform with four 4 mm hex screws. Guidecraft FLEX relocates platform brackets with bolts. Those settings may be appropriate for occasional growth adjustments, but they are not instant surface-to-surface switches. Piccalio's assembly and adjustment hardware also needs to be checked while empty. If a household plans to move between a kitchen counter and a lower bathroom vanity, rehearse the complete approved change and decide whether the routine is realistic before valuing the extra positions.
Counter height alone cannot establish fit
Two children at the same counter can need different starting platform estimates because their standing elbow heights differ. The same child can also need a different working relationship for washing at a deep sink than for mixing in a shallow bowl. Measure the exact surface and activity zone rather than applying a standard-counter shortcut.
The guard check remains independent. Sprout tells caregivers to lower the platform when the child's bellybutton rises above the side panels. Franklin+Emily uses upper and lower rear supports plus a leather rear strap that must face outward. FLEX uses a rotating 360-degree guard, while Simplay3 describes high molded sides. These designs cannot be reduced to one comparable guard-height number in the current source set, so inspect the exact child-product relationship rather than treating the calculator as clearance.
Footprint, folding, and price still shape the shortlist
Piccalio measures 18 by 18 by 36 inches and folds to a 6.3-inch depth. FLEX measures 23 by 20 by 35 inches and folds its rails and platform, but its complete folded envelope remains unverified. Explore 'N Store measures 22.28 by 19.56 by 33.5 inches and flips up only the bottom step. The other selected records are fixed or do not have a verified folding mechanism. An adjustable platform does not answer where the tower will stand or how it will be stored.
Current eligible direct prices in the in-stock group are $99.99 for Simplay3 Adjustable, $149.95 for FLEX, $239 for Piccalio, and $240 for Franklin+Emily. Explore 'N Store is $159.99 for its available finish. The other broad-range records have no eligible current price. These are dated observations for exact current configurations, not permanent prices or proof of equal included parts and support.
Recall identity comes before platform preference
The selected Simplay3 Adjustable record carries a related-model recall flag. Official recall 23-265 covers models 41807-01, 41807-02, and 41807-03 made from November 2018 through June 2023. The current page identity cannot clear a physical unit without its model and date code, so reconcile the label and remedy state before purchase or continued use.
The other selected exact-model searches found no matching notice as of their displayed dates. None found means the catalog checked an official search using the recorded identity and found no match at that time. It is not certification, proof that every unit is assembled correctly, or a guarantee against a future recall.
Use a seven-gate platform-fit workflow
First match the exact product, SKU, revision, and any lot or date code. Second clear the current official recall search. Third measure the exact surface and the child's standing elbow height. Fourth calculate a starting platform estimate and find the nearest real published stop. Fifth check posture, guard relationship, counter overhang, and reach while the exact unit is fully assembled and directly supervised.
